Cabochon crown
Most Cartier watches feature a sapphire or spinel cabochon set into the crown. On genuine pieces, the cabochon is set with extreme precision and the metal bezel around it is polished to a perfect rim. Counterfeits show glue residue, off-centre stones, or rough metal finish around the cabochon.
Secret signature on dial
From the 1990s onward, most Cartier watches have a secret signature 'Cartier' printed in microscopic letters within one of the Roman numerals (typically the X or VII). Visible only under 10x magnification. Its presence and quality of printing is a strong authentication marker on modern references.
Case-back engraving
Cartier case-backs are laser-engraved with the model name, reference number, and unique serial. The engraving depth and font are very consistent on genuine pieces. The serial number should match the warranty card and the Cartier database (which our team can verify on request).
Movement signing
Cartier's mechanical movements (Calibre 1847 MC, Calibre 1904 MC) are decorated with Côtes de Genève and signed 'Cartier' on the rotor and main bridge.
